SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday announced the reopening of restaurants, cafes, food outlets, salons and beauty parlours and salons from June 22. However, eateries along the national highways will remain closed
Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said the decision was taken following a review meeting held on Wednesday and the state health department was working out protocols which will be announced in a few days.

"As far as hotels and guest houses are concerned, the deputy commissioners have been directed to have detailed consultations with stakeholders and submit reports following which the government will take a call," he added.
DCs will also regulate the schedule and timing of operations, he said, adding that the activities and number of shops to be opened may be restricted depending on the "local situation".
The state government also announced reopening of markets along the inter-state borders from June 29.
However, border haats (markets) along the India-Bangladesh border will continue to remain closed, an order issued by chief secretary MS Rao on Wednesday read.
Meanwhile, health minister AL Hek informed that another person has recovered from Covid-19 on Wednesday, taking the number of recoveries to 29 in the state.

With the latest recovery, the number of active cases in Meghalaya has come down to 13. So far, the state has recorded 43 novel coronavirus cases.
Of the 13 active cases, 5 are undergoing treatment at the Shillong Civil Hospital, 2 at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong, 5 at the MCH Hospital, Jowai, and one at the Corona Care Centre, Tura.
The health minister also informed that till Wednesday afternoon, 14,490 samples have been sent for testing of which 14,086 results have come back negative. Results of 360 samples are awaited.
He added that to date, 16,100 stranded residents of Meghalaya have returned back to the state from other parts of the country.
