SHILLONG: Six more returnees tested positive for the novel
coronavirus in Meghalaya on Friday, taking the
total number of cases in the state to 27. Of these, 14 cases are active as 12 have already recovered and 1 person has died.
Chief minister Conrad K Sangma said of the six new cases, three are from the South
West Garo Hills district and one each from West Garo Hills, East Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills districts.
"They had come from Maharashtra, Bangalore, West Bengal and Chennai. All are under quarantine and are asymptomatic," Sangma tweeted.
Meanwhile, samples of 7,340 individuals have been sent for testing, out of which, 6,899 are negative while results of 420 samples are awaited.
Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong said till Friday, 10,655 stranded residents have returned to the state from various parts of the country. Several others are scheduled to arrive in the state over the next few days by
Shramik Special trains, he added.
Trains from Kerala with 352 citizens are expected to arrive on Saturday and a train from Goa with 99 citizens is scheduled to reach the state on May 31.
