SHILLONG: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the state government has decided not to defer salaries of government employees for the month of May since there is some stability in the central share of taxes of the state which have been released by the Centre for the months of April and May.
"The deferment of salaries was a precautionary step for effective management of the state finances in view of the unprecedented situation arising due to the Covid-19 pandemic which caused an uncertainty in the devolution of central taxes and revenue collection of the state," Sangma, who also holds the finance portfolio, said.
He added, "Since there is some stability in the central shares, we have decided not to defer the salary of government employees."
The CM, however, said that the future course of action of the state government would depend on the devolution of taxes.
