AIIMS in Himachal Pradesh likely to be completed by 2021
SHIMLA: The Rs 1,351 crore AIIMS being built at Kothipura in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh will take another two years for completion and is expected to be ready by 2021. The institute, being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna, will have a 750 bed capacity, out of which 300 would be for super speciality. There would be 100 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats in the institute.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the institute’s foundation stone on October 4, 2017, but it took more than a year to perform its ground breaking ceremony due to delay in completion of formalities, including the transfer of required land.

This project would have 15 operation theatres and 20 speciality and super speciality departments. Besides, it would also have an Ayush department with 30 beds for providing treatment facilities in traditional system of medicine.
Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said the previous Congress regime had caused unnecessary delay in transferring the land for this institution due to which people were deprived of specialised health services. He said his government had not only ensured immediate land transfer but also provided additional land of 48 hectare so that this premier institute could take off at the earliest. He said that now project would be completed in two years to provide best healthcare facilities to people of hill state.
