MANALI: Flyers will get a little relief from May 25, when domestic flights resume operations. A flight from Delhi will conduct a sortie daily to Bhuntar airport in Kullu from May 25, but there is no schedule for any flight to Dharamshala and Shimla airports. Officials at Shimla’s Jubbarhatti airport and Kangra’s Gaggal airport said they have not received any flight schedule.
“One sortie will be conducted daily between Delhi and Kullu from May 25.
At present, we are holding a meeting regarding this,” Kullu Manali airport director Neeraj Kumar Shrivastav told TOI on Thursday. An official at Shimla airport said they have also not received any schedule. “We have not received flight schedule so far,” Kangra airport director Kishore Sharma said.
Gaggal airport used to receive three flights daily – two of Air India and one of Spicejet -- before the lockdown, but Shimla has had none for a long time due to technical and other reasons.
As no private airline has shown interest in operations between Delhi and Kullu for a long time, Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India, was conducting daily flight on this route. Technical difficulties, small runway, load penalty of passengers during take-off and non-availability of small size aircrafts with many airliners are some of the reasons that only one flight was landing here.
