DHARAMSHALA: Other backward castes (OBCs) has around 20 per cent vote share in Himachal Pradesh. Out of 12 districts, a majority of it belongs to Kangra district which is known as the political capital of the state. Congress has appointed a new state chief from Kangra district replacing the earlier one from Una.
Dilawar Singh has been appointed as new state president for OBC, he replaced the Ganesh Dutt from Una district.
Singh belongs to Jawali area of Kangra district. The district has around 45 per cent per cent of OBC population.
The move comes at a time when OBC leaders in BJP are divided in Kangra over the distribution of cabinet berths. Senior leaders Sarveen Choudhary and Ramesh Dhawala both belong to the OBC category. But Choudhary was appointed as a minister but no berth was given to former minister Dhawala.
Dilawar Singh said that the appointment will attract OBC votes for the party candidate.
“OBC leaders would lend support to the party candidate,” he said.
As per the sources, few leaders from this category were already lobbying for the ticket with the high command and state party leaders to get a ticket in upcoming elections.
