Congress picks BJP MP's home turf to blow election bugle
DHARAMSHALA: On Saturday, Congress party held a massive convention related to upcoming parliamentary elections at Palampur the home turf of BJP’s stalwart and sitting MP Shanta Kumar. Congress has failed to win Kangra parliamentary seat from last 10 years.
State party Chief Sukhwinder Sukhu, all prominent leaders of the party participated in the meeting headed by AICC member Rajni Patil, incharge for state party affairs.
Former chief minister Virbhadra Singh not participated in this meeting but his close aides including former ministers attended the meeting.
Block presidents of the party and other party workers expressed their view for the election strategy ahead. To avoid any confrontation the senior party leaders told the gathering of around 1000 party workers of parliamentary constituency that they were not there to distribute ticket but to discuss election plan.
Sukhwinder Sukhu, told that Shakti app will also play a major role in selection of the ticket for the candidate from Kangra. He also targeted the sitting BJP MP for not meeting his promise of broad gauge railway line and cement plant in Chamba.
Party affair incharge, Rajni Patil said that the atmosphere in the country is in the favor of the party as evident by the assembly election result of five states of the country. But it doesn’t mean that no effort is required, she added.
“We all have to come forward and work sincerely for the party. This is must to get our leader election from this area as from 10 years BJP is ruling this parliamentary constituency” she added.
Well placed sources told that Rajni Patil also met Virbhadra Singh who was staying at Dharamshala for winter session of the assembly. But Singh didn’t go to the convention allegedly due to health reasons.
Former Congress Ministers, Sudhir Sharma who is a close aide of Singh and GS Bali were the two prominent contenders of the MP ticket from the area. Kangra parliamentary has majority of OBC population and party has recently appointed a state head for the OBC cadre from this region only replacing the earlier one from Una district.
