‘Himachal forensic qualifies UNODC exercise’
DHARAMSHALA: Forensic directorate of Himachal Pradesh has qualified the UNODC (United Nation on Drug & Crime) exercise for its narcotics testing facilities. It stood at par with the international standards.
Kapil Sharma, assistant director (NDPS) had participated in this exercise conducted by the UNODC. Talking to TOI he said that narcotics testing facility has stood up to the international standard and this would further strengthen the state government in its fight against drugs.
“It was an International Collaborative Exercise (ICE).
Four different seized drug samples were sent by UNODC for analysis under International control along with impurities present in them. All the samples were analysed employing sophisticated instruments of chemical analysis and the results were in agreement with UNODC results” said Sharma.
In December 2018, registration was made to participate in ICE. Invitation for the same was received in January 2019 and was done in June 2019 for which the accreditation by the UNODC has been received recently.
Earlier, in 2018 Dr Arun Sharma, director state forensics services had attended 10th annual meeting of Asian Forensic Science Network (AFSN) at Beijing to meet with Justice Tettey, Chief Laboratory & Scientific Section, UNODC at Vienna where he had sought assistance to strengthen Narcotics Drugs testing facilities in the state of Himachal Pradesh and for registration of NDPS division of State FSL with UNODC and participation in ICE Programme.‘Himachal forensic qualifies UNODC exercise’
