SHIMLA: Police have recovered 792 boxes of country-made
liquor from a truck near
Shimla in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. The truck was on its way to Rohru in Shimla district from
Paonta Sahib in
Sirmaur district. Police also arrested the truck driver while further investigation is on.
Arrested truck driver has been identified as
Wajid Ali (22) of
Nagani village of Paonta Sahib and truck was owned by his maternal uncle Asif Ali of Nagani.
In his statement to police, Wajid Ali said that he was told that truck was to be taken to Rohru from Paonta Sahib and he was directed to call on reaching final destination.
After starting from Paonta Sahib when truck reached at Shoghi barrier near Shimla at around 3.25 pm on Wednesday, police stopped it for checking. Truck was covered with Tarpaulin and illegal liquor consignment was hidden behind the 45 sacks of lime stone powder.
Shimla, SP, Omapati Jamwal said that during checking of truck when police team recovered the sacks of limestone power, 792 boxes of country made liquor were found stashed inside the truck. He said that a case has been registered and further investigation is on.
