SHIMLA: In a bid to corner the BJP on the issue of corruption, the Congress has formed a six-member committee to prepare a chargesheet to be submitted to the governor on December 27. The committee will be headed by former minister and Naina Devi MLA Ram Lal Thakur.
The chargesheet will be submitted at a time when the state government is engaged in celebrating one year in power.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend the celebrations.
Other members of the chargesheet committee include Shillai MLA Harshvardhan Chauhan as co-chairman, Kinnaur MLA Jagat Singh Negi as convener, Rampur MLA Nand Lal, former Speaker Gangu Ram Musafir and Vijay Kumar.
Sukhu said the chargesheet will be based on facts and supported by documentary evidence. He said it would expose political leaders and officers involved in the drug trade.
Approving of the move, AICC in-charge for Himachal Pradesh Rajni Patil wrote a letter to state Congress president Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu saying that in the past one year of BJP regime, people have suffered the pangs of poor governance. She said the government has failed to stem "irregularities" in various departments and public services. She also said that the Congress, being the opposition party, has to take these issues to the public by drafting a chargesheet against the government.
While in opposition, the BJP had prepared a chargesheet against the then Congress government headed by Virbhadra Singh and had levelled a number of allegations of corruption at the government. BJP had submitted the chargesheet to the governor demanding action, which was not taken.
