Himachal Pradesh identifies telephone numbers of 382 online fraudsters

Online fraudsters are targeting residents of Himachal Pradesh by trapping them into phishing track. State cyber cell has identified 382 such telephone numbers being operated from Uttrakhand, West Bengal, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, New Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar.

SHIMLA: Online fraudsters are targeting residents of Himachal Pradesh by trapping them into phishing track. State cyber cell has identified 382 such telephone numbers being operated from Uttrakhand, West Bengal, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, New Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar. State Cyber cell has contacted police authorities of these states to take action against them.
DSP, State Cyber Crime, Narveer Singh Rathore said this year so far 276 complaints of financial fraud were received at Cyber Crime Police Station Shimla and acting on these complaints over Rs 4 lakh amount has been refunded to the complainants from the accounts of fraudsters.

He said that Cyber Crime Police station has prepared the list of 382 mobile numbers of fraudster callers who had attempted or tried to cheat the people of state. He said that all these numbers are of service providers from other states.
He said that list of these suspected numbers was shared by the Additional DGP Ashok Tiwari with the DGP’s of Uttrakhand, West Bengal, Haryana, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, New Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar for necessary action as these numbers were being operated by the telephone service providers of these states. He said that list of these telephone numbers was also sent to the Nodal Officers of service providing companies for required action.
He said that Cber crime cell is trying to check cyber crime and people are being made aware that they should not attend the suspicious calls and do not provide their vital information related to their bank accounts. He said that people should not share their information especially with regard to bank accounts in suspected e-mails and they should not be trapped into lucrative offers made through phone calls or e-mails. He said people need to remain alert of such phishing track.

On the analysis of complaints received at Cyber Crime Police Station Shimla it has been found that fraudsters create their fake account on social networking site and pick their target through their fake profile by sending friend request and posing as high profile personality. They use the virtual number of country where their target is located.
Rathore said that virtual number is a service which anyone can buy and enable it on mobile phone with the help of Whatsapp to give the impression that they are calling from some foreign country while in actual they are located within India only.
