DHARAMSHALA: The mortal remains of Army jawan
Anil Kumar Jaswal, who died fighting terrorists in
Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated with full honours at his native village Saroha in
Una district of
Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon.
The 26-year-old martyr was the only son of his family and had become a father just five months back. His mother and wife, who had not been told about his martyrdom, both fell unconscious when his body was brought home around 2.30pm.
They had been told that he was injured and admitted in hospital after sustaining a bullet injury.
Anil, who joined the Army in 2013, had come home on leave and rejoined duty in the first week of June. He had spoken to his mother on his birthday, which he celebrated just two days back, and told her that he was eagerly waiting to come home and play with his five-month old son. His father Ashok Kumar, who is also a retired soldier, said he would send his grandson into the Army.
Anil was grievously injured in the operation against terrorists that ended after hours on Monday at Marahom village of
Anantnag district and admitted to Army’s 92 base hospital.
Government has promised job to a family member and also financial assistance of Rs 20 lakhs.
