SURAT: At least 21,000 people are expected to benefit from various schemes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch at Silvassa in the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (D&NH) on Monday.
The most awaited of the projects is the inauguration of the passport office there. The D&NH residents had to go out of the Union territory if they wanted to apply for a passport.
“Passport office was a long-pending demand of the residents. The schemes that the Prime Minister will launch during his visit here will benefit over 21,000 people of the Union territory,” D&NH administrator Praful Patel said.
Modi will hand over job cards to 2,000 qualified candidates of the region. “The administration is also going to give forest rights to beneficiaries, a demand of local people which has been pending for the past 12 years. A number of women from tribal families will be given cooking gas cylinders under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana,” Patel said. A total of 8,000 gas stoves and cookers and 108 tricycles and kits will also be handed over to other beneficiaries and 480 disabled people, respectively at the event.
“We are happy on getting an opportunity to hold such a major event in the presence of the Prime Minister here,” Patel said. Modi will address a public meeting in Silvassa. There are rumours that Congress leader Mohan Delkar will join BJP in the presence of Modi.
