Silvassa turning into investment hotspot
SILVASSA: Located midway at a distance of about 150-km from both Surat and Mumbai, Silvassa in Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH), is fast developing into a buzzing industrial hub in the region. Already 3,000 big and small industrial units are operational and more are in the offing.
While plans are underway for developing basic civic infrastructure involving a cost of Rs 150 crore, an upcoming Rs 6,000-crore Central government sponsored 1,320 mega watt power project, are likely to turn the tribal-dominated region into an investment hotspot.

The existing 25-km-long road connecting Vapi in Gujarat and Silvassa will be widened and concretised with streetlights, to facilitate faster vehicular movements, so that trade and commerce in both places could be linked, sources in local administration here said.
A well-equipped hospital with 300 beds, a campus with colleges for several disciplines and international cricket stadium are among other major plans for the region, sources said.
Planned power project for adequate supply of electricity to industries in DNH would help attract big industries to set up their units in the region. Already, some major corporates manufacturing air-conditioners, plastic materials, textile products, engine oils and lubricants, toiletries, stationeries and pharmaceutical products are located in and around Silvassa, officials said.
No wonder then that even in the run-up to recently held Lok Sabha polls on April 30, development issues for attracting business investments for both BJP and Congress remained main issues to woo voters.

The six-time local MP Mohan Delkar's winnability' largely depended on caste and community factors. But, this time, he also campaigned hard projecting local industrial development and job promises as his poll plank.
Also, region with lush green hilly and plane landscape, plans are afoot to develop centres of tourist attraction like a golf course over 85 hectares near Khanvel, a water sports complex at Dudhini and fully developed riverfront on Damanganga river, according to deputy director (tourism) AD Nikam.
