Daman-Diu and Dadra-Nagar Haveli (DNH) to set up ACB
Surat: Union territories of Daman-Diu (DD) and Dadra-Nagar Haveli (DNH) will soon have an anti-corruption bureau (ACB) to deal with graft cases. So far, corruption-related cases in Daman-Diu (DD) and Dadra-Nagar Haveli (DNH) were handled by Central Bureau of Investigation’s Mumbai office.
The ACB unit of the Union territories will have a team of 24 cops and it will he headed by a deputy superintendent of police (DySP).
The unit will have 20 policemen, two police sub-inspectors and one police inspector. Some officers have already been appointed and recently they underwent training at Surat ACB office too.
“The administration of the Union territories is setting up new ACB branch and we had provided training to the newly appointed officers,” said P M Parmar, assistant director, Surat ACB.
The DD and DNH administration has appointed former Gujarat police officer A U Jadeja as consultant. Jadeja retired as DySP and has experience of working with ACB in the state police for 10 years.
“I am assisting the administration of the Union territories to set up a local agency to deal with corruption cases. So far, the CBI used to handle these cases in the Union territories in the absence of a local agency to check corruption. Similar to Gujarat ACB, a helpline will also be started and the office will be set up within a month’s time,” Jadeja said.
