Daman police inspector killed in a road accident in Rajasthan
SURAT: A police inspector of Union Territory (UT) of Daman and Diu, Bharat Purohit, 35, died in a car crash near Sumerpur of Pali district in Rajasthan on Tuesday. He was with his family in the car when a truck crashed into their vehicle. His wife and son are injured undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Purohit, who became known for his active policing in Daman in a short period, was considered as a good officer in the UT. Purohit was born and brought up in Nani Daman and his father had settled there for business.
The family was from Jalore district of Rajasthan and had shifted to Daman in past.
Purohit, alongwith his wife and a child, left from Daman in his personal car on Monday night at around 10 PM for his their native place in Jalore. They had halted on their way for rest at late night and again started their journey on Tuesday morning, a relative informed.
“As per preliminary information Purohit was driving his car. He died on the spot while his wife sustained serious injuries. We left for Sumerpur soon after coming to know about the accident. The family and friends are devastated to hear about the death,” said a relative.
“I received the preliminary information that the police officer had died in an accident in Rajasthan. We are getting more details,” said Seju Kuruvilla, superintendent of police, Daman.
