Delkar walks out of Congress meeting to discuss ticket allocation
SURAT: Mohan Delkar, MP from the Union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli in 2004, who walked out of Congress meeting convened to discuss allocation of party ticket on Monday, is likely to fight Lok Sabha elections as an independent. Delkar said he will take a decision on fighting the elections as an independent on Tuesday .
Delkar was recently seen on the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inauguration of a medical college at Silvassa.
He was expected to join BJP, but it re-nominated sitting MP Natu Patel to fight for third term from Dadra Nagar Haveli seat as party candidate.
Delkar said, “I was on the stage with the Prime Minister to show my gratitude for sanctioning a medical college in our region. I will take a decision on Tuesday whether to join another party or fight as an independent. At present, I have not taken any decision.”
Congress leadership in the Union territory has been trying to pacify Delkar for the past one week. The constituency has about two lakh voters and any split in opposition votes will only benefit BJP, experts said.
