SURAT: Valsad police have registered one more FIR against Salim Barwatia, BJP councillor from Daman, arrested on Thursday for allegedly extorting Rs33 crore from a businessman. Salim has been remanded in police custody for four days by a court. The fresh FIR filed on Thursday by a small businessman from Vapi, also accuses Salim of extortion.
The second FIR says the complainant took Rs5 lakh from Salim in April 2019, which he repaid along with interest within two months.
However, Salim was demanding Rs5 lakh more and had threatened to kill him if fails to pay him the money. The complainant alleged that on June 24, Salim accompanied by an accomplice visited his shop. Salim allegedly showed him a gun while his accomplice a knife and they took away Rs60,000 from his cash counter. The duo also beat him up and threatened to kill him if he refused to pay the remaining amount.
The victim, who runs a Khaman shop, has alleged that he was paid Rs5 lakh by Salim in three instalments after taking security cheques of Rs13 lakh. He also alleged that Salim’s accomplices used to forcibly collect Rs1.30 lakh from him every 15 days. The victim claims the accused has collected Rs5.20 lakh from him within two months.
Salim has been booked by police under IPC sections 323,386,394, 506(2), 504, 120(B), Arms Act 25 (B-1) and Moneylenders Act’s sections 5, 38, 39, 40 and 42.
