Rs 1,400 crore projects launched for Diu, Daman and DNH
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid the foundation stone for 150-seat medical college at Silvassa.
SILVASSA (DNH) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday dedicated to Union territories Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH) development projects worth Rs 1,400 crore, which included laying the foundation stone for a well-equipped DNH medical college at Silvassa.
Addressing a mammoth gathering at the police training campus (PTC) ground at Sayli, Modi said, “In the last seven decades, there were only 15 medical seats for the students in both the UTs.
Now, the number of seats has been increased to 150. In the near future, we will add more seats to ensure that the students in UTs get quality education.”
“The medical college’s foundation stone has been laid and it will come up very soon. But, this is first time that the students will be able to get admissions in this academic term. A facility has been set up at another college where the students will be able to take education,” said Modi.
The medical college complex built a cost of Rs 189 crore is spread over 18 acres land in Sayli village. It will take around two years for its completion.
Modi said that the UTs of Daman, Diu and DNH has depicted astounding growth in the last four-and-a-half-years. With many infrastructure projects coming up in Daman, it will transform in the major tourism hub.
Modi also said that the UT administration will soon be providing automatic fishing boats to facilitate the fishermen increase their catch and income. The administration is constructing housings for the construction labourers and poor people in Daman, he said.
“The project for the protection wall is on the cards in Moti Daman. This will prevent the low-lying areas along the sea from getting flooded in the high tide,” the PM added.
