Athiyanoor gets a swap shop

Thiruvananthapuram: The first swap shop under a block panchayat in the district has come up at Athiyannoor block panchayat office.
Athiyanoor block panchayat president Bindhu inaugurated the shop on Friday. Swap shops are places where you can exchange used goods with people who are in need of the same. The aim of the project is to minimise waste.
Bindhu said that products which remain unused at the house of one person might be useful for another person.Thus, swap shops can also be considered as a platform for social service, she said.
District planning officer V S Biju said that other block panchayats must start shops in the model of swap shop at Athiyanoor. The shop turned an instant hit on the inaugural day with people exchanging a variety of products including electronic equipment, toys, dress, diary, pen etc.
Representatives of block panchayat, gram panchayat, Kudumbashree and Mahila Pradhan Kshetriya Bachat Yojana worked together to start the swap shop. tnn
