Thiruvananthapuram: Boys sweep first 10 engineering entrance ranks

Boys bagged all the top 10 ranks in the Kerala engineering entrance examination, the rank list of which was out here on Monday. Girls, however, outsmarted boys by winning the first two ranks in the entrance test for admission to the much sought after architecture course. Boys won three of the top four ranks for admission to pharmacy course.

In engineering stream, Vishnu Vinod of Anakkara in Idukki district ranked first with a score of 584.91.
He had emerged as top ranker from Kerala in the JEE Main Examination, results of which were announced this January. Goutham Govind A of Kochalummoodu in Kottayam district won the second rank with a score of 571.52. Aquib Nawaz of Vadavathoor, Kottayam (score 569) and Sanjay Sukumaran ofKattukulangara, Kasaragod (565.38) bagged the third and fourth ranks respectively. Higher education minister K T Jaleel released the rank lists here on Monday.
For the architecture stream, Alice Maria Chungath of Kuriachira in Thrissur district won the first rank with a score of 366.83. Ansha Mathew of Payyavur in Kannur and Gaurav R Chandran, who lives in Vadodara in Gujarat, have won the second and third ranks with scores 363 and 360, respectively. Praveen K P of Monniyur, Malappuram, won the fourth rank (358).
Naveen Vincent of Mundakkal, Kollam, won the first rank in pharmacy entrance (384.58). Nidha Nisma M K of Chenmakathu, Malappuram (369.85) and Rohit K of Oorakam Melmuri, Malappuram (368.56) won the second and third ranks, respectively. Mohammed Irshad, Thavanur, Malappuram, won the fourth rank (360.85).
Of the 51,667 candidates who have cleared the engineering entrance examination, 45,597 have found place in the rank list that has been published after considering the marks obtained by candidates for physics, chemistry and mathematics in their qualifying examination (Plus Two or equivalent). As many as 3,825 candidates have been included in the architecture rank list, which is prepared by giving equal weightage to the score obtained by candidates in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA-19) conducted by the Council of Architecture and the marks obtained in the qualifying examination (Plus Two or equivalent). Of the 56,318 candidates appeared for the entrance test for pharmacy admission, 39,912 were included in the rank list.

Among the first 100 rank holders in the engineering list, 66 made it in their first attempt and only 34 entered the coveted league by repeat. Eighty-four of the first 100 ranks were swept by boys. “There has been considerable increase in the number of candidates who cracked the state engineering entrance test with flying colours,” said the minister.
Among those candidates who have figured in the first 5,000 ranks, 2,341, including the first and second rank winners, had studied the state higher secondary stream, he said, adding that 2,464 candidates in the first 5,000 ranks had studied CBSE syllabus and 164 ISCE syllabus.
The option submission for the courses would begin on Wednesday and the first allotment can be expected by June 20.
