Covid cases cross 100 mark in a day in Kerala

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state is heading for its worst scenario of witnessing more Covid cases. For the first time the number of positive cases hit a three digit mark on Friday. As many as 111 positive cases were reported in a single day.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state is heading for its worst scenario of witnessing more Covid cases. For the first time the number of positive cases hit a three digit mark on Friday. As many as 111 positive cases were reported in a single day.
The chief minister said the state government has decided to begin anti-body tests from Saturday for which the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has supplied 14,000 kits.
From this 10,000 kits have been supplied to different districts. The ICMR has also assured that 40,000 more kits will be supplied within three days.
Among the new cases reported in the day 50 people had come from abroad, 48 people from other states and ten people acquired the infection through contacts. Among this three are health workers.
Of the new 111 Covid-19 cases 40 are from Palakkad, 18 from Malappuram, 11 from Pathanamthitta, 10 from Ernakulam, eight from Thrissur, five each from Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha, four from Kozhikode, three each from Idukki and Wayanad, two from Kollam and one each are from Kottayam and Kasaragod.
With this the total number of positive cases reported in the state have now become 1697 and at present there are 973 active cases. Now three districts have over hundred active cases for the first time in the state. Palakkad tops with 180 cases followed by Kannur with 119 cases and Malappuram with 107 cases. Thiruvananthapuram has 71 active cases now.
From May 4 to June 5, a total of 1200 positive cases have been reported in the state of which 1067 cases are imported and 133 are tested positive through contacts.
As many as 177106 persons are placed under surveillance, out of which 175561 are under home/institutional quarantine and 1545 are admitted in designated isolation facilities. Till date 79074 samples (including augmented samples) have been sent for testing out of which 74769 came as negative. Apart from above, 19650 samples were taken from priority groups like health care workers, persons with high social exposure, workers etc. as part of sentinel surveillance of which 18049 samples tested negative.
