THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has censured Devikulam MLA S Rajendran for his remarks against Devikulam sub-collector Renu Raj. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who hinted about the party action, termed Rajendran’s act as ‘immature’, on Thursday. The party could not turn blind eye to such remarks made by any of its member, especially against a woman, he added.
It has been learnt that Idukki district committee of the party has censured Rajendran and has imposed strict restriction on making public comments.

This is the first time that the party has taken disciplinary action against the MLA who had altercations with IAS officers who acted tough against encroachments in Munnar.
Raj had objected to the construction of a building complex by Munnar panchayat along the banks of a river where construction is banned. The MLA, flaying her decision to stop the activity, had insulted her publically.
The party finally decided to take action against the MLA as even high court also made it clear that it was an illegal construction, upholding the findings of the sub-collector.
Earlier, Idukki district committee had sought an explanation from Rajendran after his statement snowballed into a controversy.
It had invited severe criticism and even revenue minister E Chandrashekaran too came in support of the sub-collector. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran also had come out against Rajendran.
