CPM softens stand on NSS
Kodiyeri Balakrishnan leading the Kerala Raksha Yatra on Saturday
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Softening its stand against the NSS, CPM state Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday said that the community organization is not an enemy of his party.
“Caste organizations are not enemies of the Communist movement. The left (democratic) front is always willing to cooperate with NSS”, he said on the sidelines of the Kerala Raksha Yatra.
Referring to the difference of opinion between NSS and CPM in the Sabarimala issue, Kodiyeri said the CPM treated the position of the NSS leadership as their individual opinion.
“It is a fact that a good majority of NSS workers are still with the Left. Leadership may not like us, but we don’t treat it as an enmity”, he said.
The CPM state secretary also lauded the reformist initiatives of caste organizations and recalled how Communist movements collaborated with those organizations for realizing renaissance. He appreciated the positions taken by SNDP and KPMS in the Sabarimala issue.
Referring to the local body bypoll results, Kodiyeri said the people’s verdict has proven recent survey reports (that predicted big win for UDF in Lok Sabha election) wrong.
“LDF’s vote share has grown by one lakh votes in the byelections held after the government came to power. There were 14 editions of bypoll in local bodies and LDF registered win in all these. All university unions in the state are now ruled by SFI”, he said adding that support to LDF is growing from all sections of people.

To a query on the internal issues in Kerala Congress (M), Kodiyeri said P J Joseph should fire real bullets rather than firing blanks.
“None of his shots are hitting the bull’s eye. We will think about it when we are convinced that he is serious of hitting the target”, he said when asked whether Joseph’s stand would help LDF.
On national politics, Kodiyeri said there wouldn’t be any alliance with Congress and CPM anywhere in the country. “Nobody can diminish the power of left. In Kolkata, the left front could organise a bigger rally than Mamata’s,” he said.
