Govt to upgrade diabetes institute
Medical camp organized at Lion’s Club, Kowdiar, as part of World Diabetes Day observance
Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Institute of Diabetes at Pulayanarkotta will be upgraded to a world class institute and Rs 13 crore has been sanctioned by the government for the institute. This was announced by health minister K K Shailaja here on Wednesday while inaugurating the World Diabetes Day observance held at the institute.
Lifestyle diseases are posing a serious threat to us with more people falling prey to those, she said.
“The government is giving special focus to lifestyle diseases. An NDC control room has been formed to identify and treat lifestyle disease of below 30-year-old patients. There is also a scheme to treat lifestyle diseases in all family health centres,” said the minister.
Vamanapuram block panchayat president K P Chandran inaugurated the district level diabetes day observance at CHC, Kanyakulangara. Manickal panchayat president Sujatha presided over.
KIMS hospital and Mall of Travancore organized day-long events as part of World Diabetic Day. Jothydev’s diabetes centre at Mudavanmugal organised a series of events on Wednesday. SUT Hospital, Pattom organized a free medical camp on the occasion.
