Kerala adjudged ‘Best Destination for Families’
Kerala bagged the India Travel Award 2018 in ‘Best Destination for Families’ category in an online poll conducted by Lonely Planet Magazine
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has been chosen as the ‘Best Destination for Families’ in the country through an online poll conducted by Lonely Planet Magazine, thus bagging the magazine’s India Travel Award 2018 in this category. Last year, Munnar had won the award in the ‘Best Destination for Romance’ category.
Tourism director P Bala Kiran received the award at a function organized at St Regis in Mumbai last week.
This is the latest in the bunch of prominent awards that Kerala Tourism has been winning at national and international levels.
“Kerala Tourism expects to woo vacationers from across the world during this monsoon season with two key tourist attractions which include Neelakurinji flowering in Idukki district and the new Jatayu Earth Center about to be opened at Chadayamangalam, in Kollam,” said tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran.
It is a proud moment for Kerala Tourism to receive such a prominent award, said tourism secretary Rani George. “Kerala is a state that offers travel enthusiasts enriching experiences throughout the year,” she said.
Bala Kiran, after receiving the award said Kerala has something to offer for every generation of travellers, ‘which makes the state best destination for families’. “Stressing on this concept of family destination, we have launched the ‘Come Out and Play’ campaign,” he pointed out.
The Lonely Planet award also covers other categories including best destinations for romance, culture, adventure, food and drink and wildlife.
