The state government has lifted the blanket ban on mining and quarrying of minerals, including ordinary earth, imposed on August 10 following multiple landslides in the state.
An order issued by mining and geology director K Biju said the ban has been lifted as the disaster management authority has withdrawn all alerts and moisture in soil has reduced.

However, the restrictions imposed by the district disaster management authorities in places like Wayanad will continue. Mining activities at 895 quarries in the state were halted following the ban on quarrying and transportation of quarried material.
The department has issued the highest number of quarry lease permits in Malappuram (89), followed by Ernakulam (87), Thiruvananthapuram (55) and Kozhikode (50).
