THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of improving the industry-academia linkage in engineering education sector, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University is all set to invigorate the activities of its industry attachment cell.
Recently, the board of governors of the university has recommend to mandate student internship as part of the engineering curriculum. It has also cleared the proposals for introducing industry-linked minor and elective courses that would promptly address the shortage of skilled manpower that the industry seeks.
To coordinate the activities of the cell, the university would appoint a coordinator to develop and maintain effective network with various industries, university and affiliated colleges.
The major responsibility of the coordinator, who would be an engineering graduate with sufficient experience in engineering industry, would be to serve as an interface between the university and industries for strengthening academic and research functions, a notification inviting competent candidates for the post said.
The coordinator is supposed to support curriculum development by involving industry experts. According to the university sources, the cell would soon start working towards establishing partnership with leading industries and seek support for instituting common facilities, such as R&D labs, at the university or selected affiliated colleges.
