Labrador’s death: Vet manhandled at govt hospital
Thiruvananthapuram: Tension broke out at the Government Multi-Speciality Veterinary Hospital, Peroorkada, on Thursday after a doctor was reportedly manhandled by a group of four persons following the death of a labrador dog, which was brought to the hospital on Wednesday. Dr Anoop, who was injured in the assault, has been admitted to Medical College Hospital.

The veterinary hospital authorities filed a police complaint at Peroorkada police station against Anzar Muhammad of Nilamel and three other persons, who are yet to be identified.
According to hospital authorities, the dog was brought to the hospital on Wednesday. The owner, Anzar Muhammad, said the condition of his dog was serious. Dr Anoop, who was not on duty but came early for his post noon shift, asked for a referral letter. The owner did not give a referral letter but gave the name of a doctor.
The dog reportedly had a history of tick-borne disease. Later, the doctor on duty checked the dog and decided to take the blood samples for confirmation of disease. The owner then left the hospital.
He turned up in the hospital on Thursday and said that the labrador died and it happened because of delay in ensuring treatment and he put the blame on Dr Anoop.
The hospital authorities spoke to the owner and the other persons and said that they could file a complaint with authorities concerned. They submitted a formal complaint and asked if they could meet Dr Anoop.
When the doctor was summoned, they reportedly pushed him into a room and assaulted him, according to hospital authorities. Anoop was first taken to Government Hospital, Peroorkada, from where he was referred to the Medical College Hospital.
The district unit of Indian Veterinary Association will boycott duty on Friday in protest against the assault on the doctor. A protest will also be staged in front of the hospital.
The association has called for observance of black day. In February, caesarean of a home-bred pug at government multi-speciality veterinary hospital in Peroorkada had triggered a row with the owner of the dog coming up with allegations of medical negligence.
