Notorious thief held for stealing Rs 5 lakh

The city police have arrested a notorious thief, Unnikrishnan alias Thiruvallom Unni, for stealing Rs 5.7 lakh from Milma staff cooperative society office at Ambalathara. His arrest was recorded at Vizhinjam police station.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city police have arrested a notorious thief, Unnikrishnan alias Thiruvallom Unni, for stealing Rs 5.7 lakh from Milma staff cooperative society office at Ambalathara. His arrest was recorded at Vizhinjam police station.
The police said that the theft at the cooperative society office was just one of the 52 thefts Unni committed during the past six months. He was a habitual offender, who had committed numerous thefts in the past.
He was arrested and jailed for the previous crimes and came out on bail six months ago. Soon, he started committing thefts again.
Vizhinjam station house officer S B Praveen, who led the team that made his arrest, said that they identified Unni as the one behind the theft at the cooperative society office based on the fingerprints collected from the crime scene. He was taken into custody and during the interrogation he revealed that he committed as many as 52 thefts in the past six months.
Unni was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
His modus operandi was to roam around in his autorickshaw, spot suitable places for theft and then break into those places during the night. Besides the Milma staff cooperative society, he broke into several shops and restaurants in Vizhinjam, Poonkulam and Ambalathara regions also. He also broke into numerous shops and establishments under Maranalloor and Kattakkada police station limits too.
Unni has been actively committing crimes for 27 years. He started off as a vehicle thief. He has around 50 vehicle-lifting cases in his name. He has cases pending in various police stations in Kollam too. He is also infamous for poisoning the wells on the house premises of residents of Aryancode while living there. He committed the crime as he suspected that the local residents were sharing information about his activities to the police.
