Ten thousand kids takeover Kanakakunnu

Thiruvananthapuram: Nishagandhi Auditorium was converted into a big classroom on Wednesday, as ten thousand students from city-based schools attended the Children’s Day celebrations organized by Kerala State Council for Child Welfare. Children’s President Sneha S and Children’s Prime Minister Devaki D S addressed the gathering.
Unlike in the previous years, when the event was held in SMV School with over three thousand participants, this edition of Children’s Day was celebrated in a grand manner.
Considering the convenience of children, the event which used to be held during the afternoon was shifted to morning.
While, the event began on a celebration mode, with a colourful rally from Museum to Kanakakunnu in which around ten thousand students from city-based schools took part, the celebration took a serious note in the convention that followed. The children’s representatives focused their speech on issues dealt by children in the society.
Tiny tots from city schools took over the stage with their eloquent speeches.
The children’s speaker Divyalekshmi S from Fort Girls Mission High School in her address spoke about child abuse and asked her friends to be conscious.
Governor P Sathasivam in his message on the occasion said that the children should be aware about their rights. The governor released the Children’s Day stamp in the function. The prizes for Varnotsavam, students’ festival were also distributed in the function. Social justice minister K K Shailaja, special secretary of social justice Biju Prabhakar and general secretary of council for child welfare also attended the function.
Later in the day, the governor inaugurated the Children’s Day celebrations organized by the Institute of Children’s Literature at St Mary’s HSS, Pattom.
