THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In yet another instance of tragedy related to rough weather, a fisherman lost his life after his boat capsized off the coast of Vizhinjam on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rahman, 45, resident of 50 Colony, Valiyaparambu, Harbour Road near Vizhinjam.
Three other fishermen on the boat were rescued by another group of fishermen from Kulachal in Tamil Nadu.
They have been identified as Abdul Manaf, Sadiq Ali and Ahmed Shah.
Just two days ago on Monday, two fishermen had died in a similar mishap which occurred near Perumathura in the district.
Abdul Rahman and others set out for fishing in a boat fitted with outboard engine around 4 pm on Tuesday. They were struck by the wave while they were pulling back the net along with the catch. All four of them were thrown into the sea. Since the boat was swept away they had no other option but to swim in the direction of the shore. Around 3 am, Manaf, Ali and Shah were spotted and rescued by the fishermen from Kulachal. But, they could not find Abdul Rahman anywhere and hence they returned to Vizhinjam and alerted the authorities.

A search was launched immediately by the Coastal Police and Marine Enforcement. The local fishermen, too, joined the search. After around two hours of search, the search party found the body off the coast of Vallavila in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, which is around 15 nautical miles away from Vizhinjam.
Abdul Rahman is survived by wife Zubaida and two daughters-- Beema and Aftha.
