Three new Covid-19 hotspots notified in the Thiruvananthapuram

Almost two weeks after containment zones were taken off the list in the district, three new hotspots were declared in the capital on Wednesday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Almost two weeks after containment zones were taken off the list in the district, three new hotspots were declared in the capital on Wednesday.
Kulathur ( near Pozhiyur), Navaikulam and Nellanad have been declared as hotspots and will be treated as panchayats requiring special attention. No containment zones were notified in any of the wards of these panchayats.

Till May 13, eleven wards in Neyyatinkara and two wards in Varkala; both municipalities, were notified as containment zones after two persons tested positive at Neyyatinkara and one person was tested positive at Varkala.
The new hotspots were determined based on recent cases reported in these areas. In the last five days, a remand prisoner was tested positive who is a resident of Venjaramoodu. An expatriate hailing from Navaikulam and an ambulance driver employed with a primary health centre at Navaikulam were also tested positive recently. A Tamil Nadu native with residential address at Pozhiyur was also tested positive during his visit to RCC.
The district now has 29 active cases under treatment. As many as 586 persons were brought under surveillance on Wednesday and 409 persons completed observation period without any symptoms. A total of 5,359 persons are currently under home quarantine in the district and 28 persons were admitted to hospitals with disease symptoms on Wednesday and 18 persons have been discharged. As many as 112 persons are currently under observation in hospitals.

A total of 223 samples were sent for testing on Wednesday and 166 samples received on Wednesday were tested negative. As many as 887 persons are currently under institutional quarantine in 21 Covid care centres. As many as 6,047 persons were subjected to inspection from 2,888 vehicles.
The inflow of persons to the capital continued from other states on Wednesday. As many as 128 persons reached the district by evening of which 102 persons hailed from the district itself. As many as 121 persons arrived from Tamil Nadu and seven persons came from Karnataka. 22 persons arrived from red zones in other states. Only eight persons were sent to institutional quarantine and eight others chose paid quarantine among 128 persons who arrived by Wednesday evening.
