TRICHY:
Tamil Nadu’s State Transport Authority on Monday launched an Android-based e-challan mobile app for the regional transport offices in the central region to provide a comprehensive and transparent traffic enforcement system.
At a function here, state transport minister
M R Vijayabhaskar distributed the e-challan machines to transport officials in the central region.
Apart from minimising the efforts and time of road users in making payments for violations, the app would register and maintain the history of offences of a particular vehicle.
“The e-challan application will enable the
RTOs to do real-time check to identify whether the vehicle has proper records such as fitness certificate. All the 145 RTOs and unit offices in the state will be equipped with the e-challan machines,” transport commissioner C Samayamoorthy said.
Owners of drivers of
vehicles involved in violation can pay the penalty either by using credit or debit cards. There is also a provision to pay the penalty online from home through the e-challan number.
As many as 73 offences, including overload, overspeed and carrying passengers on load vehicles, can be penalised through the e-challan application.
