Tamil Nadu: Eight killed as mini truck falls into roadside well in Trichy
The mini truck fell into a roadside well near Thuraiyur in Trichy district.
TRICHY: Eight people were killed and more than 10 others sustained injuries after a mini truck fell into a roadside well near Thuraiyur in Trichy district during the evening hours on Sunday. All the injured have been rushed to the Thuraiyur government hospital for treatment.
According to police, the deceased have been identified as K Gunaseelan, 45, G Kumarathi, 52, D Gomathi, 40, G Ezhilarasi, 66, Sarankumar, 16, E Yamuna, 10, all hailing from Perur village and M Kayalvizhi, 35, S Sanjana, 4, of Kattapalli village near Musiri in Trichy district.

The 22 villagers from Perur and Kattapalli near Musiri in Trichy were on the way to perform puja of their village deity in the temple located at SN Puthur.
On the way to the temple, the driver of the mini-truck lost his control over the vehicle as one of the front tyres of the vehicle burst. After the impact, the truck fell into an abandoned roadside well leaving 9 people dead on the spot and more than 10 sustained grievous injuries.
Thuraiyur police along with personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services department rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons and sent the bodies of victims to Thuraiyur government hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the district collector S Sivarasu and superintendent of police Zia-ul Haque rushed to the spot and inquired about the incident and instructed the officials for a speedy rescue operation.
Thuraiyur police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
