UDAIPUR: A 14-year-old Dalit girl was mercilessly beaten by cops at a police station in Chittorgarh district last Sunday, allegedly to extract a confession from her that she has received a pair of stolen gold earrings from a minor boy, a suspect in a theft case.
The minor girl, a Class VIII student in a government school, was allegedly beaten and tortured by the Station House Officer (SHO) and a constable of the Bhadsoda police station in Chittorgarh district on July 15.
A medical officer at the community health centre (CHC) at Sanwaliaji near Chittorgarh refused to admit her calling it a police case. The minor was later admitted at the Chittorgarh government hospital after the court intervened. The minor's father has filed a complaint against the SHO, who is a lady officer, and the constable for keeping the minor girl in a dark room for around five hours and assaulting her. The father said that the minor sustained fracture on her left wrist and was badly bruised.
Chittorgarh's Superintendent of Police has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
