Andhra Pradesh: 12 killed, one injured in tragic road mishap in Chittoor district

At least 12 persons were killed and one injured in a gory road accident reported at Mogili Ghat road in Bangarupalyam Mandal of Chittoor district on Friday. According to preliminary information, the driver of a speeding truck on his way to Gangavaram from Chittoor, lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed at Mogili Ghat road.

TIRUPATI: At least 12 persons were killed and one injured in a gory road accident reported at Mogili Ghat road in Bangarupalyam mandal of Chittoor district on Friday.
According to preliminary information from Madanapalle sub-division police, the driver of a speeding truck on his way to Gangavaram from Chittoor, lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed at Mogili Ghat road in Bangarupalyam mandal.

The speeding truck jumped over a road divider and rammed into a mini van, an auto rickshaw and a two wheeler coming in the opposite direction and crushed all the three vehicles before overturning into a nearby pit.
After being alerted by passersby, the local police rushed there and shifted the injured to the Palamaner government hospital. Police roped in a crane to pull back the truck to retrieve heaps of bodies that lay crushed beneath the truck.
Nine out of the 12 deceased in the road mishap were identified as: Ramachandra (50), Ramu (38), Savitramma (40), Prameela (37), Gurramma (52), Subramanyam (49), Sekhar (45), Papamma (49) - all belonging to Marrimakula village of Gangavaram mandal. The motorist who was crushed to death was identified as Narendra (37), a resident of Balijapalli in Palamaner mandal. The driver and the cleaner of the truck who too were killed in the mishap are yet to be identified.
According to police, the condition of the lone survivor in the mishap who was admitted to the Palamaner government hospital was said to be critical.
Chittoor district collector Narayana Bharat Gupta rushed to the spot after learning about the fatal road mishap. The district collector supervised the rescue operations at the spot.
