Andhra Pradesh wants Reliance to rethink exit plan

TIRUPATI: Industries minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy on Wednesday said the government will try its best to persuade Reliance to reconsider its decision of withdrawing from its mega electronics manufacturing project, which was slated to come up at the electronics manufacturing cluster near Tirupati.
"Our doors are open and we believe Reliance too hasn't closed the doors completely on us.
We will meet the company's representatives and address all their concerns. We will also try to allocate them alternate set of lands if they are willing to set shop here," Goutham Reddy said, when asked for his reaction to the report about Reliance's withdrawal from the project which was published in TOI on Wednesday. The minister blamed the erstwhile TDP regime for the current fiasco. "M/s Reliance prolific traders private limited (RTPL), a subsidiary of Reliance industries, signed an MoU with the AP government in February last year to set up an electronics manufacturing park near Tirupati to house multiple facilities engaged in manufacturing, testing and development of electronic products. The project was expected to provide employment to 3,750 people and was supposed to become fully operational within four years," he said.
The previous government agreed to provide 175 acres of land to RTPL, spread in two adjacent parcels of 135 acres and 40 acres vide GO Ms No 20 on December 14, 2018.
