VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday directed the state government to express its stand on setting up amenities in Amaravati capital region.
The high court was hearing a petition by former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar and former chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao challenging the ‘Swiss Challenge’ system.
When government pleader K Jaganmohan Reddy appealed to the court to post the case to another day, the HC overruled the objections.

The court said advocates and staff working at the high court were facing problems due to poor amenities and infrastructure in the capital city. “We cannot even find a tea stall near the high court. Judges and staff working in high court don’t have any quarters. Government is bound to create the amenities,” the HC said.
The special government pleader said the earlier government had shifted the HC to the new building in haste without providing basic infrastructure.
Further hearing in the case will be held on November 3. Special government pleader K Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the case was filed opposing the Swiss challenge system and was not related to the construction of the capital city.
