NEW VOTERS: The district election office would release a supplementary list of new voters soon
KANPUR: As many as 69,926 new voters have been added in the voters list of the city just before the voting to be held in the city on April 29. The names of only those people have been added in the voters list who completed the required formalities.
The district election office would release a supplementary list of new voters soon, after which they can cast their votes by showing the IDs approved by the election commission in case they do not get their ID cards in time.
The city's list now has 34,67,466 voters who can cast their voters for Kanpur Nagar seat, said a source.
According to deputy election officer, Kehari Singh, the election commission has given an opportunity to the people to add their names who could not figure out their names in the voters list released in the month of January. "As many as 57,606 new voters filled the forms for enrolment as voters. After scrutiny, the election office cancelled applications of around 836 new voters due to technical reasons", Singh said. As many as 12,320 new voters have been included in the voters list through online submission, but application of 3,243 voters were cancelled either due to more than one application or for not submitting necessary documents such as age proof or proof of residence, said the deputy election officer.
New voters can use voter card, Aadhar card, driving license, Pan card, passport and I-cards issued by their office on the day of voting to establish their identity, he added.
According to sources, around 213 applications from Sisamau assembly constituency and 103 from Cantonment constituency are under process. Moreover, 149 applications from Sisamau, 143 from Cantonment, one from Arya Nagar, six from Maharajpur and one from Govind Nagar constituencies are under verification process at the level of booth officers.
Till April 2, around 1,80,803 voters have been added in the voters list in the city, the deputy returning officer further said.
