Ranchi: National Testing Agency on Saturday declared the percentile marks for the first round of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, within a week of the date of exams. Ranchi boy Ankit Kumar Jain became the topper from the state with an overall NTA score of 99.989968.
Talking to TOI, Ankit who is a class 12 student at Delhi Public School, Ranchi said: "I am pleasantly surprised at the results.
I knew I did reasonably well but did not assume that I will be a state topper. I have been in class since morning and have had little time to celebrate."

Jain who is also a National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) scholar added: "I spent 4-5 hours on self-study irrespective of my routine. Even though I am very happy with my score I will be reappearing in the April round to improve my scores."
The scorecard shared by NTA has separate percentile scores for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry along with a NTA score. Jain has scored a perfect 100 percentile in mathematics followed by 99.9917861 percentile in Chemistry. In Physics, the Ranchi boy has scored 99.79110012 in percentile marks.
"The answer key and our recorded responses were released by NTA two days ago. I calculated the marks at 340, though the scorecards released today only have percentile scores---not actual marks," he added. Jain also scored 80 out of 102 in Regional Mathematics Olympiad this year and was the state topper in the same too.

Incidentally,15 students from all over India scored a perfect 100 NTA score--but there were no such candidates from Jharkhand.
Nationwide, a total of 8.74 lakh students wrote JEE Main Paper I between January 8 and January 12 this year.
"I am still so elated that I am not sure how I plan to celebrate the achievement. I would like to thank both my parents and teachers for helping me. With the right strategy, I am looking ahead to score even better in JEE Advanced and get into a good Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)," Jain said.
Despite all the hullabaloo around the happy news, Jain added that he has filed for answer challenges. "I have challenged answer keys for two questions in the Paper I. I am not sure how NTA plans to take those into account, given many times answer keys for JEE Main is revised after they are challenged," he said.
