Hindu Bangladeshis fleeing into India: BSF
GUWAHATI: The Border Security Force (BSF) said that minority communities in Bangladesh are in a state of insecurity in view of the coming general elections in that country and are trying to infiltrate into India for safe shelter.
The force stated that on Wednesday, its troops deployed at Baghmara in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya nabbed 11 Bangladeshi Hindu nationals, including four minors, while they were travelling on NH-62 (Baghmara to Tura) along with a tout, who is an Indian citizen who facilitates Hindu Bangladeshi nationals to settle illegally in Cooch Behar district in West Bengal.

In a statement, the border guarding force stated, "At present, just before general elections in Bangladesh, a tense situation prevailing in Bangladesh and under these circumstances minority community are seemingly feeling insecure in Bangladesh."
They seven nabbed adult persons have been identified as Nirmal Sarkar (34 years), Pronoy Dey(23 years) Sapan Barman (33 years), Kabi Ranjan Dey (25 years), Nupur Talukdar (22 years), Suma Sarkar (25 years), Kana Rai (20 years).
The BSF party also seized Indian currency Rs 8,000 and Bangladeshi currency worth 47,000 taka along with other personal belongings from their possession.
"These Bangladesh nationals are residents of Netrakona and Sunamganj of Bangladesh. Baghmara is very close to the international border. Due to non-existence of Indo-Bangladesh border fence at many places, at times Bangladeshi nationals illegally enter into Indian territory taking advantage of thick vegetation," the force said.

"These Hindu Bangladeshis were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory through unfenced jungle area for further safe passage," the force stated.
The statement also said that during the questioning of the tout, Manmohan Majumdar of Kalarayekuthi village under Kotwali police station in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, he revealed that he had entered Bangladesh one week before where he contacted all Bangladeshi nationals with the help of one Bangladeshi national namely, Sukumar Dayal Hajong of Netrakona district.
"After reaching Bangladesh he contacted willing Hindus who want to come with him to settle in India. He is one of the most wanted person in Bangladesh who always used to go to into Bangladesh to motivate Hindus for migration. Bangladesh Police had arrested him earlier. He also confessed that he was residing in Kalmakanda, Nayabazar in Bangladesh since 17 years. The apprehended Hindu Bangladeshies confessed that they have relatives who are already residing in Coochbehar (India)," the force stated.
The apprehended persons and seized items handed over to concern department for further legal action.
