J&K cadre IAS, IPS officers to become part of AGMUT cadre

J&K cadre IAS, IPS officers to become part of AGMUT cadre
NEW DELHI: The ‘Union Territory’ status for Jammu & Kashmir as well as Ladakh region will subsume J&K cadre of all-India Services like IAS and IPS into AGMUT cadre that serves the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Mizoram and all UTs.
“With the state of J&K now bifurcated into two Union territories, the Centre will directly administer the latter. J&K cadre has ceased to exist and its officers will now be part of AGMUT cadre.
The arrangement will enable some good officers of UT cadre to be posted in J&K and is likely to contribute to better administration and policing of the two UTs,” a senior government functionary told TOI.
The sanctioned strength of AGMUT-cadre IAS officers as on August 28, 2018, was 219, covering Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, NCT of Delhi, Puducherry, Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. With J&K now split into two Union territories, its sanctioned strength of 137 IAS officers will now have to migrate en masse to AGMUT cadre.
An administrative order in this regard is likely to be issued by the department of personnel and training and home ministry, the cadre controlling authority for IAS and IPS officers respectively, soon.
Sources indicated that Centre being the cadre-controlling authority for AGMUT, which will now comprise officers from now non-existent J&K cadre, the woes faced by many newly-allotted J&K cadre officers who were made to wait for a long time by the erstwhile state governments before being posted, will be a thing of the past.
