Nagaland govt sets up committee to compile tribal customary practices

The Nagaland government has set up a four-member committee to compile the customary practices and usages of all the tribes of the state. The committee will be headed by chief secretary. The other members of the committee are Home commissioner, secretary of Justice and Law departments and the commissioner of Art and Culture department will be the member secretary.

KOHIMA: The Nagaland government has set up a four-member committee to compile the customary practices and usages of all the tribes of the state, officials said Saturday.
There is a need for compilation of the personal customary practices and usages of all the tribes in the state so as to have a better understanding of the same as well as for the purposes of record and references, stated a government notification issued by joint secretary to the government, L Jamithung Lotha here on Friday.

The committee will be headed by chief secretary. The other members of the committee are Home commissioner, secretary of Justice and Law departments and the commissioner of Art and Culture department will be the member secretary, the notification said.
The committee will chalk out the modalities for carrying out its work in the manner it deems appropriate. The committee has been empowered to utilize the services of any government official or associate any person as it may deem fit for successful completion of the task assigned to it.
The committee has been asked to submit its report within two months, the notification stated.
The state government has also convened a meeting to discuss and deliberate on the said exercise with all the tribal bodies of the state on August 7 at the secretariat conference hall, Kohima.
