DAMAN: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the helicopter service between Daman and Diu and the flight service between Diu and Ahmedabad.
Addressing a large gathering at the polytechnic college ground in Daman, PM Modi said, "Daman and Diu will get a major tourism boost with the launch of helicopter and flight service."
Modi added, "The people visiting Daman from South Gujarat and Maharashtra will be able to fly to Diu, Gir and Somnath in the helicopter.
Along with tourism the religious tourism will also get a major boost "
Modi remarked that Daman is among the cleanest union territories in India.
"Now, it is the responsibility of the residents of Daman to maintain it. This will attract more tourists and generate more employment opportunities for Daman youths."
In an important announcement related to the fishermen community in Daman and Diu Modi said, "The Daman administration has decided to abolish VAT on the fishermen community. This will enable the fishermen to earn full profits."
Modi exhorted the fishermen community to associate themselves with the blue revolution initiative of the government by investing in state-of-the-art boats to go deep into the sea and get the full catch of fish.


Modi lauded Daman for being an open defecation free area and congratulated the locals and administration for achieving the "big step".
"I saw a unique campaign in Uttar Pradesh where they have placed signboard in each of the public toilets saying 'Ijjat Ghar'. This way, we should give due respect to our mother and sisters," said Modi.
Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stone for projects worth Rs 1,000 crore in Daman and Diu including water treatment plant, electricity generation, solar power generation, university, gas pipeline and CNG station.
