A vigil was held on Tuesday night in
Ilford at the exact
spot the three Sikh men were brutally killed on
Sunday. About 150 Sikhs from the local community, including those from nearby
Seven Kings Gurdwara, turned up to pay their respects and a bouquet of flowers was laid on each spot where a body was found.
Labour leader of
Redbridge Council Jas Athwal said: “This devastating event has ruined at least five families.
Three young lads that lost their lives and two who are in hospital but obviously will have to face the consequences. This was a personal feud that has spilled over and now everyone in Seven Kings and beyond is suffering. Violence only leads to heartbreak and we must ensure as a community that we come together and give enough support to those left behind. We have that duty.”
Another Sikh resident said, “National newspapers have labelled those involved as Sikh gangs. I have grown up here my whole life, there are no Sikh gangs in
East London. They don’t exist. The notion is fiction.”
