Chandigarh set to host grassroot level badminton tournament

The opening leg of the grassroot level PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship 5 (JBC) is all set to be played in the UT from July 9 to 12 at the New Sports Complex, the organisers announced on Tuesday.

CHANDIGARH: The opening leg of the grassroot level PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship 5 (JBC) is all set to be played in the UT from July 9 to 12 at the New Sports Complex, the organisers announced on Tuesday.
The tournament will be played across 10 cities with the national finals to be conducted at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi on September 9 and 10.
With Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu as its brand ambassador, the tournament is expected to provide a platform to more than 9,000 budding shuttlers to showcase their mettle on the national stage.

After completion of the first leg in Chandigarh, the tournament will move to Mumbai's Andheri Sports Complex for the second leg, slated from July 21 to 25 while the third leg will be played from July 27 to 31 at the Modern PDEMBA Sports Complex in Pune.
Thereafter, the tournament moves to the Khel Badminton Academy in Kochi for the fourth leg to be played August 2 to 5, before Bengaluru gets the hosting rights for the fifth leg at the Karnataka Badminton Association Stadium from August 7 to 11.
Guwahati's Kanaklata Indoor Stadium will play host to the sixth leg from August 10 to 13 before once moving south to Hyderabad for the next leg, slated from August 19 to 22.
Kolkata will host the next leg from August 24 to 28, followed by the penultimate leg in Lucknow's Babu Banarasi Das UP Badminton Academy from August 30 to September 1. New Delhi's IG Stadium will host the final leg from September 3 to 7, followed by the grand finale at the same venue, a couple of days later.
