Chandigarh not included in U-16 ML Markan trophy

CHANDIGARH: In what can be termed as the first after-effect of the merger of Chandigarh Cricket Association-Punjab to UTCA, Chandigarh players will not be a part of the upcoming Punjab state inter district U-16 tournament for ML Markan trophy, starting Tuesday.
The tournament will be played between 20 districts which have been divided into four pools of five teams each.Chandigarh district which had recently merged with UTCA is not included in the draw.
The four groups are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ferozpur, Faridkot and Muktsar Sahib. The second group includes Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Nawanshaer and Fazilka. Group 3 will comprise Patiala, Ropar, Sangrur, Mansa and Barnala while the fourth group will have Mohali, Ludhiana, Moga, Bathinda and Fatehgarh Sahib.
The matches will be played at various venues across the state. The tournament will be played on league-cum-knock out basis and the league matches will be played over two days. The league stage will conclude on August 27 while the quarterfinals will be played on August 30 and 31. The semifinals will be played on September 2 and 3, with the final slated for September 5 and 6.
The opening matches will be played between Mohali - Moga at Mullanpur Stadium. Ludhiana-Fatehgarh Sahib at Ludhiana, Barnala-Mansa at Mansa, Patiala-Sangrur at Dhruv Pandove Stadium Patiala, Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur at Burlton Park Jalandhar, Kapurthala-Nawanshaer at Kapurthala, Amritsar-Muktsar Sahib at Gandhi Grounds Amritsar, Gurdaspur –Faridkot at Gurdaspur on August 13-14.
The matches will be supervised by PCA Panel umpires, scorers and match referee.
