CHENNAI: Paras Dogra, one of the prominent names to have emerged from Himachal Pradesh on the domestic circuit, will be turning up for Pondicherry in the upcoming Ranji season.
"Yes, it's confirmed that I will be playing for them," Paras told TOI. Paras, who made his domestic debut during the 2001-02 season, has featured in 101 first-class games - scoring 6879 runs at an average of 48.78 with 20 centuries to his name.
On the logic behind going for Paras, an official from Cricket Association of Pondicherry said, "Not only has Paras played in India, he also has the experience of playing in overseas circuits such as Dhaka Division Premier League where he turned up for Partex Sporting Club.
We needed someone with solid credentials and Paras fits the bill."
The side is likely to be coached by former India bowler Avishkar Salvi and his deputy will be Onkar Khanvilkar. Former Rajasthan wicketkeeper Dishant Yagnik will be the team's fielding coach. It has also been learnt that the U-23 Pondicherry side will be coached by former Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions leg-spinner Pravin Tambe. Doraiswamy Subramanian will be assisting Tambe in the team. "Tambe is an ECB Level-2 certified coach and is a qualified man. And so is Doraiswamy. We have made sure to get the best people for the job," said the official.
The Pondicherry squad is likely to assemble at Anantapur for their pre-season training camp. "The Anantapur Sports Academy ground had recently played host to Tuti Patriots where they had a fruitful preseason camp. We too chose to go for it since the facilities are top-notch," said the official.
