Rohit Damodaren to lead Pondy in Vijay Hazare

DINDIGUL: Rohit Damodaren was named the skipper of the Pondicherry side that will be featuring in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Fabid Farooque Ahmed will be his deputy. Rohit, with 35 first-class games to his credit, had led the Siechem Madurai Panthers to their maiden title win at the recently concluded third edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Other prominent members in the side include the outstation players Abhishek Nayar, Pankaj Singh and Paras Dogra.
X Thalaivan Sargunam, who features for Globe Trotters in the TNCA first division league is also part of the squad.
The first 18 in the squad will be attending a camp ahead of the competition. A release from the association states it has short listed another 36 players and the details will be announced shortly. Among those who passed YOYO tests, another round of selection matches will be organized to finalise B team with 16 players and 4 reserves. This senior men B team will be touring Sri Lanka to play against strong first class teams in Colombo.
“Those performing out of B team will get a chance to play for A team and those who failed to do well in A team will go on to be part of the B team. Those not part of either A or B teams will get chances to get in to main stream once they consistency perform in the local league matches and tournaments,” said a source close to the development.
Pondicherry will open their domestic season by taking on Uttarakhand in their Vijay Hazare Trophy clash in Gujarat on September 21.
